Weathering The Storm

Weathering the Storm: Challenges and Opportunities for Colorado Nonprofits During Recession

Jointly published by the Community Resource Center and the Colorado Nonprofit Association and sponsored by The Colorado Health Foundation, Weathering The Storm demonstrates that Colorado's economy has impacted nonprofits all over the state. Cover Image Weathering The Storm Report

Nearly 70 percent of nonprofits have seen an increase or significant increase in demand for programs and services and 40 percent of those nonprofits surveyed were unable to meet the needs of current clients at year end due to the combination of demand for service and lack of funding. Nearly 40 percent saw decreases in corporate funding, 30 percent in special events and individual donations, and 27 percent in foundation grants.

In addition to publishing this report, CRC and the Colorado Nonprofit Association are designing resources, toolkits, and trainings to help nonprofits deal with the ramifications of the recession. We will host training sessions in 12 locations around the state over the next six months, with details about the first four trainings below.

Weathering The Storm: Trainings Around Colorado

As part of our efforts to help nonprofits respond to the recession, CRC and the Colorado Nonprofit Association will be partnering to offer trainings on financial management and fundraising across the state to help increase nonprofit sustainability.  Please keep an eye on CRC's website for the full training schedule.

Save the Date! We are coming to Alamosa, Durango, Grand Junction, and Glenwood Springs!

We will be launching registration very soon for trainings in our first first four locations on these topics:

  • Financial Management: Critical things that Colorado nonprofits need to know (and do!) during recession
  • Fundraising: Innovative strategies for fundraising success during an economic downturn

Our first trainings will be offered in the following communities in early May:

  • Alamosa - Tuesday, May 5, afternoon
  • Durango - Wednesday, May 6, morning
  • Grand Junction - Thursday, May 7, morning
  • Glenwood Springs - Friday, May 8, morning

To be notified when registration launches, please email Sarah at fischler@crcamerica.org.

Want to bring these trainings to your community?

We will be offering these trainings in many more locations around the state during 2009.  If you would like to host these trainings in your community, please contact Sarah Fischler.
